Car Insurance Porsche (Car Insurance). should the mechanic repair my car for free if the job was not done properly?

should the mechanic repair my car for free if the job was not done properly? I recently took my Astra to have to head Gasket done. It was at the garage for 2 days. when i got it back it was still losing lots of oil (burning it..not leaking) I took it back and the mechanic said it was something that happens after the head gasket has been repaired and it was nothing to worry about. so i drove it and kept topping it up for a couple of days.. then a couple of days ago when i went to start it, it wouldn't turn over at all. I looked under the bonnet and the creamy stuff had returned to the oil. I have asked a few friends and they have all said that the head gasket has gone again. Can i ask the mechanic to repair it for free?. Do they have any guarantees on work carried out?

well often when you lose a head gasket, the big end of the motor goes too, sometimes its difficult to tell and repairing a head gasket only involves an educated guess, its clear to me, the bottom end of your motor is now gone, the new or rebuilt head is likely ruined too, and so knowing this, you are going to turn your NEW MOTOR over to the same mechanic? I cant say what happened You were there, when you got it back was the head gasket working, and other than a lot of smoke was it running on all cylinders for a few days or not? only you know. I do know that engine will not run again, you need to decide what you want to do. I don't know that mechanic, do you? or any of your friends? or work mates? right now you need a entire engine. the mechanic should have full repaired that in the first place. Since he was the one that first told you about that problem so in short yes he is responsible for the damage. Most of the time, they should do it for free. We just had almost the same thing happen. They fixed our car for free. And you should have gotten some sort of receipt that should say the warranty. If they didnt really fix it the first time, they are obligated to do the repairs for free. Otherwise, you pretty much paid them for nothing. They SHOULD repair it for free. Its the only decent thing to do, and it makes good business sense. But weather they do or not is completely up to them, and their policy. 99% of all shpps have some sort of guarentee on their work. For me, YES! The mechanic should repair it for free. And this time, bring someone who knows about car engines so he can watch it while they are repairing. This is just to make sure that he will do it right this time. And once done, don't go back to them again to have your car repaired. I know a decent car repair but it's in Michigan. If you happen to be near or around MI, I recommend that you visit them. I posted their site below.

Porsche . How to Change the Front Brakes on a 2006 Focus

The Ford Focus made its debut in the 2000 model year, both in the U.S. market and around the world. The Focus featured highly responsive handling and brakes in order to appeal to European buyers, and this made the model popular with U.S. drivers who appreciated a spirited small car. Focus owners can benefit from learning how to change their own front brakes in order to save the time and expense of a trip to the mechanic's for this routine maintenance task.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Lug nut wrench
Car jack
Jack stands
Wrenches
Bungee cord
Brake piston retracting tool
Mallet
Screwdrivers
Pliers
Brake grease
Brake cleaner spray
Brake disc micrometer

Step by Step :
1
Park the car on a firm and level surface and set the parking brake. Put automatic transmissions in park and put manual transmissions in first or reverse gear. Loosen the lug nuts a half a turn and then jack the car up. Place the car securely on an axle stand. Completely remove the lug nuts and remove the wheel off.
2
Pull off the rubber caps that cover the heads of the caliper guide bolts. Remove the caliper slide bolts. Grip the caliper and roll it back and forth a few times to spread the brake pads far enough apart to clear the rim of the disc. Remove the caliper from the disc. Do not stretch or kink the rubber brake hose. Hang the caliper out of the way on a bungee cord.
3
Pry the outside brake pad wire retaining clip off the outside of the caliper with a screwdriver. Take care not to damage the clip. Slide the pads and shims out of the caliper.
4
Use a brake piston retracting tool to force the piston back into the cylinder. Place the metal plate of the tool against the inner surface of the outside caliper frame and place the spindle swivel against the piston face. Turn the spindle clockwise to force the piston back into the cylinder.
5
Pull the disc straight off the hub. If the disc is stuck, firmly tap the center part of the disc with a mallet to loosen it. Do not hit the disc outer rim or the braking surface area.
6
Measure the brake pad lining thickness. If less than 0.060 inches, or if the linings are damaged or unevenly worn, replace the pads.
7
Measure the disc thickness with a brake disc micrometer at several places around the disc and compare against the manufacturer's recommended minimum thickness. The minimum thickness for original equipment discs is 0.91 of an inch. For replacement discs the minimum allowable thickness is normally stamped into the metal of the outer disc rim. Replace the disc if the measured thickness is below the specified minimum, or if it is deeply scored, warped or cracked. Minor disc damage can be repaired by machining at a brake shops or auto parts store.
8
Follow the steps in the reverse order to reassemble the brake. Clean the caliper slide bolts with brake cleaning fluid and lubricate them with brake grease before reinstalling them. Test the brake operation and then lower the car.

Porsche . How to Tell When Your Front Struts Need Changing

Struts are the most important part of an automotive suspension systems for several reasons. They are instrumental in providing a comfortable ride, maintaining good handling and taking on much of the kinetic energy created during braking. A good way to determine strut condition is by taking a well-focused test drive. If the car handles poorly or has a harsh ride, or if braking isn't crisp and clean, it's likely time to replace the hydraulic struts and upgrade to gas-filled models. A simple troubleshooting exercise will confirm any doubts.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Air pressure gauge
Tape measure

Step by Step :
1
Air up all four tires to their recommended pressure, checking the pressure in each one with an accurate air pressure gauge. Park the car on a level surface and perform a ride height measurement test. Measure from the back of each wheel opening to the concrete. Measurement sites should mirror each other on the car frame--both front wheel and rear. Be precise and accurate in choosing the same location on either side of the car. The measurement results should be identical for the two front measurements. The two rear measurements should also match. A difference of 1/4 inch is significant; it indicates strut and spring weakness. Replace the front or rear struts as a pair.
2
Inspect the car's tires. Tires that have to take on additional brake load because of weak struts tend to develop sidewall bulge due to the cords stretching over time. The tires should stand upright, capable of managing the brake response instead of having to absorb the downforce that the braking creates and that the worn struts can't manage. Tires in this shape need replacing along with the struts. Poor struts also significantly diminish brake life.
3
Bounce the car on each corner. It should not oscillate. It should be hard to push down. It should barely rebound at all. If it nearly bottoms out and keeps hopping up and down when pushed, it's time for service. If the car scrapes on driveways that it didn't scrape on in the past, replace the struts.

Part IV: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies • If it's watery or slippery; it's green, red, blue, orange, or rust colored; and it's coming from under the radiator or engine, it's probably coolant. To check the radiator, engine, and hoses for leaks, see "Checking For and Repairing Leaks in the Cooling System" in Chapter 14. • If it's oily; it's pink, red, or clear; and you find it toward the front bumper (usually on the driver's side), it's probably power-steering fluid. Chapter 3 tells you how to check the power-steering dipstick. If the level is low, add more fluid and check again in a couple of days. If it's low again, have a mechanic check things out. • If it's a light-colored or clear fluid, it may be brake fluid. Even if the leaks have dried, the stains should be visible. Depending on which part of the car was parked over the puddle or spot, check for brake fluid leaks around the master cylinder and around the brake lines. If the leak is where a wheel was standing, check down the inside surface of that wheel. If you find stains or wetness there, the brake cylinder could be leaking — or a dog could have "marked" your car! 937 Car Insurance 1994 buick regal customcoupe2d 334020

Leaky brakes are too dangerous to leave unattended. Have a professional repair any brake fluid leaks immediately. • If it smells like gasoline, it probably is! If the leak is under the hood area, check around the fuel pump and the fuel injectors — or the carburetor, if your vehicle has one. If the leak seems to be under the center of the car, check the fuel lines. If it's under the rear end, check the fuel tank. (Don't smoke while you're doing this!) Gasoline ignites easily, and gasoline vapors can explode, so if you smell gasoline — and you haven't just filled your tank — find the source of the leak and have it repaired immediately. If your usual repair facility isn't close by, either drive to the closest garage and have them repair it, or call your auto club and have them either fix it on the spot or tow the car to a repair facility. • If you can't locate the source of the leak and your vehicle is losing liquid from the radiator on a regular basis, Chapter 14 can help you find the leak and check your radiator pressure cap. process of elimination to check anything that may cause your vehicle to run roughly: hoses, tires, brakes, oil levels, and spark plug connections; the car buretor, cooling system, clutch, gearshift, and steering linkage. The index can steer you toward the chapters that include instructions for checking these things. Chapter 20: Troubleshooting Leaks, Squeaks, Smells, and Strange Sensations A!? 1 Here are a few specific sensations that you may encounter: V If steering is difficult and you have power steering, see "Check the Power-Steering Fluid" in Chapter 3 for information about checking the dipstick in the reservoir attached to the power-steering unit to see whether there's enough power-steering fluid. If it's low again soon after you fill it, check for leaks in the hoses leading from the unit to the front wheels. V* If your car starts wandering instead of running in a straight line, the problem can be caused by worn steering components or wheels that are out of alignment. If the vehicle starts pulling to the left or right, one of the tires may be underinflated, or the front end may be out of alignment. Look for the solutions to these problems in Chapters 16 (steering) and 19. «-" If your car pulls to one side when you step on the brake pedal, Chapter 18 tells you how to check your brakes.

C" If the engine speeds up but your car doesn't accelerate when you step on the gas pedal; if there's a delayed response (or none at all) when you shift gears; or if shifting suddenly becomes awkward or noisy, check the transmission (see Chapter 17). If you have an automatic transmission, you may just be low on transmission fluid, or you may have a disconnected hose or plugged filter. If you seek professional help, make sure that they check the problems that are cheapest to remedy before they decide that you need major transmission work! Finally, I strongly suggest that you do the under-the-hood check in Chapter 3. This easy, 15-minute monthly checkup can prevent 70 percent of the problems that could cause your vehicle to break down on the highway. By checking for symptoms of trouble in advance, you can save yourself time and money that you'd otherwise have to spend for towing and repairs.
